2023’s Top Trends: Get Fit and Feel Fabulous

Now that you have your pen, paper and good attitude turned to the maximum, let’s go on and explore 2023’s Top Trends to Get Fit and Feel Fabulous! The intention here is to bring you the latest and greatest trends in fitness for the new year.

There is no better time than the start of a new year to set new fitness goals and try some new things. Since no one knows what is in store for them in the coming year, it is ideal that we wear an expectant attitude unbeknownst to ourselves that we might just meet “the one” if you know what I mean. He or she might just notice you because you packed on some new abs, thanks to the motivating advice below that will have gotten you spotted at the gymnasium or even in the office. So, let’s dive into the top trends that will help you get fit and feel fabulous in 2023.

1. Virtual Fitness

Virtual fitness has been a big hit in the past year and it’s not slowing down in 2023. Thanks to the pandemic that hit us in 2019 / 2020, many gym lovers had to find alternative ways to stay in shape despite the temporary worldwide dystopia we all were thrust into. Some fitness bloggers and influencers went so far as to say that THANKS to the downtime at home, they grew phenomenally in their fitness journeys due to restrictions in gym equipment or even space to work out. Thanks to that, they managed to target areas on their bodies that their established gym routines did not quite cover. With the convenience of being able to work out from home, virtual fitness classes and personal training sessions are now as a result becoming increasingly popular. From pilates to high-intensity interval training, there is a virtual class on any field of training for just about everyone. And the best part? No more excuses for missing a workout because of weather or a busy schedule.

2. Outdoor Activities

If virtual fitness isn’t for you, don’t worry, there are plenty of other options. Outdoor activities are on the rise and for good reason. I personally come from days in my youth where my friends and I would just open a stage in public and start to DANCE! We did not see it as exercise because we were just having fun moving our bodies to music. It was only after I became a grown woman that I realised what all that activity did for my body. As soon as I stopped, I did not look as good. I therefore started again by switching on music in my home and started working out through dance. The muscle development I saw in just a year with NO EQUIPMENT was astronomical! It all also came with plenty of stamina. Because of this, I started to chose to walk to the store instead of drive and on holiday, I actively choose ventures that get my body moving.

For me it was dance that got me in shape, for you it might be cycling, rowing or walking the dog. Not only do you get to enjoy the beautiful weather, but you also get to experience the benefits of being in nature. If you love hiking or kayaking – do more of it! There are so many ways to get your heart rate up and enjoy the great outdoors.

3. Functional Training

Functional training is a type of workout that focuses on exercises that mimic real-life movements. As a dancer, I would know the power of this type of training. Because dance is a form of acting, but with music, many of the moves follow the natural way in which we move, however with upping the tempo and sometimes maintaining poses for extended periods as we try to maintain balance. The combination means a full body workout. When we walk, talk, gesture in any way, upon intensifying those movements and thus turning them into exercise, it is MIRACULOUS the transformation the body can experience.

By design human beings move in these ways, it is no wonder therefore that our bodies respond so well to this type of training. So next time you go to the store to buy groceries, see if you can’t hold that milk carton in one pose for 60 additional seconds. While you’re add it (pun intended), hold a pose with that new heater you purchased since it is heavier than a milk carton and lastly, who does not find a watermelon surprisingly heavy? These mini workouts might end up not even feeling like exercise since it is literally what we regularly do. When also throwing your cutie pie toddler in the air, try to intentionally do that three to five more times. If they don’t get dizzy and happen to like it a lot, instead of falling to the ground in exasperation while the kid wants more, humour them and do it again! It’s a great way to improve your overall fitness and function, while also having fun.

4. Wearable Technology

Wearable technology has come a long way and it’s now easier than ever to track your progress and monitor your health. I would know this since it has been my life long problem to simply stop training when I felt like I had enough. I found however, that by wearing a device that counted my kilometres and tabulated how many burned calories have gotten me one step closer to an hourglass shape, I got motivated to push until the end. Because of this technology, stamina and endurance can get raised in trackable ways and everyone knows that there is no better reinforcement than positive reinforcement. Seeing the improvement makes all the difference.

From smartwatches to fitness trackers, there are so many options to choose from. By tracking your activity levels, heart rate, and sleep patterns, you can get a better understanding of your overall health and make changes to improve it.

5. Mindful Movement

Finally, we have mindful movement. Similar to the exercises needed to establish balance in dance, this trend is all about being present in the moment and focusing on your body’s movements. From tai chi to mindfulness-based stress reduction, there are plenty of options for you to choose from. Mindful movement is known to increase serotonin levels in the body because it is a form of exercise that is not as strenuous. Not only can it help you reduce stress and improve your balance and flexibility, it is also known to tone muscles without weights because of the maintained poses for extended periods of time. Allow yourself to take a break from your busy day, by joining a pilates class or simply meditating on your religious beliefs while maintaining poses. As a Christian, I sometimes turn on some scripture meditations and do workout poses to them on repeat. It truly works to set me free, at least momentarily, from the troubles of this world.

There you have it folks! The top trends in fitness for 2023. Whether you prefer virtual fitness classes, outdoor activities, functional training, wearable technology, or mindful movement, there is something for everyone. So, choose a trend that appeals to you and start your journey to get fit and feel fabulous in 2023.

Adore you tonnes

I have tried some virtual yoga classes and I really enjoyed them. I also love being outside to get some fresh air.
