Astrology: Rooted in the Reality of the World
One of the most enduring songs ever written asks this question: "Mirror in the sky, what is love?" The singer, Stevie Nicks, wrote, sang this epic song, and called it Landslide. It's the one where she ponders her own reflection in the snow-covered hills. We experience a kind of beauty listening and singing along with the chorus. There is this tension in the song that change is imminent and that each moment we have together is precious, a gift of time, and so the song is also a haunting reminder that life is much too temporary.
Landslide was a favorite song of my beloved sister. She would turn up the volume as a legion of family and friends swayed arm in arm, belting out each verse. Then, in a glorious crescendo we raised our voices at the chorus, together. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. People were smiling and crying those happy tears in one big, gigantic circle. Everyone was under the same spell, a communion of feeling and sound, a musical reminder to celebrate the moments we all have together, and to make the circle of life worth living. Not for a second did I think that my youngest sister would be gone, in an instant, only a few short months from that memorable occasion. But the snow gave way, unexpectedly, and "*the landslide brought me down." I will miss her.
Leonardo DaVinci said, “the mirror is our teacher,” and considered the mirror a master of painters. Astrology is a mirror! Reflecting an image of who we were, who we are and who we are meant to be. Like the artist, who represents reality with a brush stroke, the astrologer uses the zodiac, a synthetic model of life, to represent an individual’s lived experience. This skill is then applied for the purpose of affording individuals a better understanding of themselves, to paint a picture that helps clients get a glimpse of their true self, to “see” their own reflection.
My sister was immeasurably alive while she was here and "handled the seasons" of her life with extraordinary grace. In many ways, astrology, rooted in the reality of the world, is precisely for this purpose, to serve as a guide, to better handle the seasons of our lives with grace.
Sessions are now open and available to discuss the seasons of your life, to reflect on the ebb and flow of life, and explore what potential lies ahead.
