That's how it was with me, I saw the incredibly evocative forms of the stereotypical Norse raider and became intrigued, which led to study and appreciation for their forebears, which were the Germanic tribes, whose history is fairly obscure but mythology implies certain aspects were inherited from pre-human ways, "caveman magick" as a good friend calls it. Naturally, there's also the link to certain Eastern peoples, but I am a mystic and not an anthropologist.
