If you're navigating through the storm of trauma and seeking a way to anchor yourself, I've got just the thing for you.
The Magic of Breath
I know firsthand how trauma can make you feel like you're caught in a whirlwind. But here's the thing: you have the strength to weather the storm. Breathing Meditation is a tool that harnesses the incredible power of your breath to ground you, calm your racing thoughts, and remind you of your own resilience.
Finding Your Sanctuary
- Choose a Quiet Spot: Seek out a cozy corner where you can have a moment of peace. It could be your bedroom, a park bench, or even a tucked-away nook in your home.
- Get Comfy: Sit down in a comfortable position. You can sit cross-legged on the floor, on a cushion, or even in a chair – whatever feels right for you.
Tuning Into Your Breath
- Inhale Deeply: Take a slow, deep breath in through your nose. Feel your lungs expand like they're filling up with positivity and strength.
- Exhale Gently: As you exhale through your mouth, visualize any tension or negativity leaving your body. Imagine that with each breath out, you're releasing what no longer serves you.
Embrace the Rhythm
- Find Your Pace: Let your breath settle into a natural rhythm. There's no rush – allow the inhales and exhales to flow smoothly.
- Counting Your Breaths: If it helps, count each inhale and exhale. Inhale for a count of four, and exhale for a count of six. Adjust the counts to what feels comfortable.
Focus Your Mind
- Thoughts Are Like Clouds: As you breathe, thoughts might pop up – worries, memories, or to-do lists. It's okay! Imagine these thoughts as clouds drifting by, and gently bring your focus back to your breath.
- The Anchor: Your breath is your anchor in this moment. Whenever you feel overwhelmed, return to it – let it be your safe haven.
Gratitude and Healing
- Positive Affirmations: While you continue to breathe, repeat positive affirmations silently to yourself. Phrases like "I am strong," "I am resilient," and "I am healing" can work wonders.
- Express Gratitude: Before concluding your meditation, take a moment to express gratitude for your breath and the healing it brings.
End with Kindness
- Gentle Awakening: When you're ready to finish, take a few deep breaths and slowly open your eyes. Let the feeling of calm and strength stay with you.
Breathing Meditation is a tool that empowers you to reclaim your peace, one breath at a time. Embrace it, make it a part of your journey, and know that you have an unwavering wellspring of strength within you.
