THE RACE FOR A VACCINE
Mar 24, 2021

Reading time 2 min.

Since the beginning of 2020, a fierce race between countries for the victorious coronavirus vaccine has begun. London officials registered the date as December 8, 2020. Since then, the entire medical community has worked tirelessly : it saved lives in hospitals and in scientific laboratories. After just 332 days, the global scientific community created the COVID-19 vaccine.

The spirit of the time of 2020 was the statistics of 332 days, which gave hope for a bright future without coronavirus.

THE FASTEST VACCINE IN HISTORY

The link between the human papillomavirus and cervical cancer was established in 1981. To this day, thousands of people die from it. But the HIV vaccine was only invented in 2006!

Most vaccines are developed over a period of 10 years. It is noteworthy that before this, the record for the time of development of the vaccine was broken by the mumps vaccine. It was developed in 4 years.

The New York Times in April 2020 published approximate statistics on when the vaccine will be released. If the circumstances were not so serious, according to experts, the vaccine would not be released until 2033.

What is the secret? Why was the vaccine released in just 332 days?

STATE SUPPORT

This rapid result was achieved thanks to many factors : the accelerated testing process, the structure of the virus itself, and the incredible investment from governments around the world. The countries united in the fight against their terrible enemy and helped each other in every possible way.

Usually, governments do not invest a huge amount of money in the pharmacological field, since the problems that it solves are not urgent and do not give 100% results.

The COVID-19 pandemic has destroyed all the old foundations and ways of society.

The United States government has pledged about $ 9 million for the development and production of several vaccines in the hope that at least one of them will give the desired result. For example, $ 1 billion was allocated for the Moderna vaccine and another $ 1.5 billion for its production. Such numbers are not surprising, since between $ 512 million and $ 2.1 billion is allocated mainly for vaccine development.

Confident individuals and governments have also invested their money in building production facilities for the mass production of vaccines.

The huge cash flow of money into vaccine development, the continuous work of doctors, the pre-established factories for the production of vaccines helped to create a vaccine in 332 days. And now, after all these hardships and losses, we can hope for a bright future.
