In today's society, we are bombarded with messages that tell us happiness is the ultimate goal in life. We are constantly searching for the next best thing that will make us feel happy, whether it's a new job, a new relationship, or material possessions. However, research shows that a life focused solely on happiness may not be as fulfilling as a life focused on usefulness. In this article, we will explore why a useful life is more fulfilling than a happy life and provide insights on how to shift our focus towards usefulness.

The Problem with the Pursuit of Happiness

Happiness is an emotion that comes and goes. It is not a permanent state of being, and therefore, cannot be the sole purpose of our lives. In fact, research shows that the pursuit of happiness can actually lead to more unhappiness. When we focus solely on our own happiness, we become self-centered and disconnected from the world around us. We may begin to feel a sense of emptiness or purposelessness, as we are not contributing to something greater than ourselves.

The Importance of Living a Useful Life

Living a useful life, on the other hand, is focused on making a positive impact on the world. It is about contributing to something greater than ourselves and leaving a legacy that will continue long after we are gone. When we live a useful life, we experience a sense of purpose, fulfillment, and meaning that cannot be found in the pursuit of happiness alone.

Here are some quotes that illustrate the importance of living a useful life:

"The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

This quote emphasizes that the purpose of life is not happiness, but rather usefulness. Living a life that makes a difference in the world is what gives our lives meaning and purpose.

"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." - Mahatma Gandhi

When we focus on helping others, we can find a sense of purpose and fulfillment that cannot be found in the pursuit of happiness alone. Serving others is a way to connect with something greater than ourselves and to make a positive impact on the world.

"Life is about making an impact, not making an income." - Kevin Kruse

This quote reminds us that our focus should not be on accumulating wealth or material possessions, but rather on making a positive impact on the world. When we live a useful life, we leave a legacy that will continue long after we are gone.

"To be useful, we must embrace difficulty and uncertainty."

Difficulties and uncertainties are inevitable in life. However, it is through these challenges that we learn and grow. When we embrace difficulty and uncertainty, we open ourselves up to new experiences and opportunities. We develop resilience, determination, and problem-solving skills. We become better equipped to handle the challenges that life throws our way.

Here are some practical ways to cultivate a life of usefulness:

Focus on your strengths: Identify your strengths and find ways to use them to help others. You may have a particular skill or talent that can be used to benefit others. By focusing on your strengths, you can find ways to be of service and make a difference in the world.

Volunteer: Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community and make a difference in the lives of others. Whether it's working with children, the elderly, or animals, there are countless ways to get involved and give back.

Be kind: Kindness is a simple yet powerful way to make a positive impact on the world. Small acts of kindness, such as smiling at a stranger or holding the door open for someone, can brighten someone's day and make a difference in their life.

Learn new things: Learning new things keeps our minds active and helps us grow as individuals. Whether it's learning a new language, taking a cooking class, or reading a book, there are endless opportunities to learn and expand our knowledge.

Practice gratitude: Gratitude is a powerful tool for cultivating happiness and fulfillment in life. By focusing on the good things in our lives and expressing gratitude for them, we can develop a more positive outlook and find greater meaning and purpose in life.

In conclusion, life should not be solely focused on happiness, but rather on usefulness. By living a life of usefulness, we can find greater fulfillment, meaning, and purpose. As Helen Keller once said,

"The most important thing in life is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well."

Check Your Vibes! Find out how much Positive and Negative energy you have!

The Energy Leadership™ Index (ELI) assessment is the proprietary, research-backed assessment tool, created by iPEC, that takes something abstract, like the way a person views the world, and turns it into something tangible—a metric that you can see and feel and even reevaluate in the future.

You’ve probably taken personality tests, like Myers Briggs, DiSC, and Enneagram, but this is different. And transformational.

The ELI is an attitudinal assessment tool that captures how an individual currently perceives and approaches work and life. This means that you learn to make change happen in real-time when you encounter a moment of self-doubt, fear, or frustration.

With the awareness and insights gained through the Energy Leadership Index debrief, you have the opportunity to reshape your attitudes and worldview and transform your life into the one you envision.

Our worldview is the result of a combination of many different aspects: our past experiences, level of consciousness, perception of situations. Each of us has a unique combination of all seven levels of energy which, in turn, creates your typical viewpoints, perceptions, and beliefs about life.

Learning about your energetic makeup can help you to reframe your perspective, shift your consciousness, and increase your energy level as a result. Discover your unique energetic makeup by taking an ELI Assessment!

This comes with an hour debrief - As an FYI the price is what it is because there is a price to me- I have to pay the institution for the assessment and the scoring. Then I'll walk you thorugh your results.

Learn your Brain Type!!

When you learn your brain type, you learn what parts of your brain are overactive and what parts of your brain are underactive. This quiz is based off of Dr. Amen's 7 types of ADD. However, it doesn't matter whether or not you have ADD - you have a brain and this will tell me what type. And then we could combine this information with your personal history and what doctors may have said about you.

This is great for someone who is either not taking anything for their brain and is interested in trying supplements or someone who is taking medication or supplements and is not happy with how they feel or how they are performing cognitively.

When you take this assessment - there are 2 coloumns - the first column is for you, the 2nd column is for someone who knows you really well.

Then if you want to address the results with me as your coach we could talk about what that would look like.
