On one fine day, I stood starving. All I had was a piece of loaf.

The loaf was paltry in proportion to my hunger. It could barely suffice my craving.

I desperately longed for a larger chunk.

I glanced at the loaf through prying eyes and could barely resist the temptation to wait for a moment. I roll off my tongue and have a visual feast.

The bread meant life to me.

A stray pup stood there.

The animal looked at the food and kept gazing with its lusty eyes. I spotted it hyper-salivating.

It looked me in the eye. It wanted to pounce on the piece and have it solo.

I was as hungry and wanted to gulp down the food in a single go.

I saw the dog for a moment and felt sad, dejected, and pitiful.

There were equally hungry creatures on either side, looking out for food.

I decided (with a heavy heart) to part the loaf with the canine.

Is this what you call kindness? I don't know if there were a better word. You could call it charity if that delights you.

I comprehend kindness, charity, and empathy as very fulfilling virtue. I get a sense of satisfaction. Nothing matters more than putting into practice, what you preach to others.

You seldom understand the prominence of “kindness” until you have been a hungry pup.

At the end of the day, it's about the dog being as happy as you are.

Kindness is not about having two pieces of the loaf and giving one to the dog. It's about having a piece of the loaf and sharing it with the dog when you are as hungry as the dog.
