21st Century Drawbacks. How to Deal with the Society.

The constant evolution of society is on rapid pace. This change has brought a lot of negative vibes in environment. When we think of society as personal perspective, we often get a negative view of it. Because sadly, in even 21st century, most of us become slaves of these societal norms.

Don’t believe me! You know it most of us are instructed to go school to get a good job and then get married and then have a family!!

What do you think why we do it. Though some consciously choose this path which is good. But most of us, due to societal pressures have to opt it.

In “Notes from Underground,” Fyodor Dostoevsky presents society as shallow and superficial, driven by conformity and superficial values, rather than true individuality and authenticity.

He argues that society’s emphasis on rationality and progress leads people to ignore their own emotional and irrational desires, which leads to a state of alienation and dissatisfaction.

And when we lose control on our emotions and irrational desires, we also ignore our ability achieve higher in our life. We start believing that “I don’t think I can achieve more in such unsupportive society!” and settle for mediocrity.

But what’s the solution.

Well, the solution is to ignore negativity in society. And inducing immence control on our own emotions.

By focusing on personal values and principles, rather than societal expectations.

This means setting personal goals and striving to live in accordance with one’s own values and beliefs, rather than conforming to societal norms and expectations.

Build genuine connections with others.

It means valuing quality over quantity in relationships and striving to form meaningful connections with family, friends, and community members. This can provide a sense of belonging and support in one’s life.

But what if parenets are part of that category? Try to detach them slowly but not permanently. (that’s quite offensive solution but staying around people who suck your energy is way more distorted)

It’s also important to have a positive attitude and mindset.

This means reframing negative thoughts, practicing gratitude, and focusing on the present moment. By having a positive attitude, one can improve their overall well-being and find happiness in their life.

Conclusion

Be open-minded and to not be afraid to question societal norms and expectations. One should be willing to consider different perspectives and ideas, and to be open to change.

Keep in mind It’s your life you get to have control on it.

Have Joyous Day💫🤞

5 Principles of Stoicism to Induce Change in Life

After reading the two books I mentioned below, my perspective change immediately. I learned these five principles from stoicism.

image

Virtue is value

The Stoics were a school of philosophy that believed in living a virtuous life. They believed that virtue, or moral excellence, was the ultimate goal in life.

They believed that virtues such as wisdom, courage, justice, and moderation were necessary for living a fulfilling life. They believed that by cultivating these virtues, one could achieve a state of inner peace and tranquility, regardless of the external circumstances.

Feel the Presence of Present Moment

One of the key principles of stoicism is accepting the present moment. The Stoics believed that we should focus on what we can control, which is our own thoughts and actions, and let go of what we cannot control, such as external events or other people’s actions.

This is the idea of accepting what is, and not wasting energy on things that are beyond our control. They believed that by accepting the present moment, we can be more present in our own lives and live in the present rather than dwelling in the past or worrying about the future.

Self-Control is important

Another important principle of stoicism is the importance of self-control. The Stoics believed that self-control is essential for living a virtuous life.

They believed that we should strive to control our emotions and desires in order to act in a rational and virtuous way. They believed that emotions such as fear, anger, and envy can cloud our judgment and lead us to make irrational decisions.

By mastering our emotions, we can make decisions that are in line with our virtues and ultimately lead to a more fulfilling life.

Reason is Crucial

The Stoics also believed in the power of reason. They believed that reason is the most powerful tool we have for understanding the world and living a virtuous life.

They believed that we should use reason to guide our thoughts and actions, and that by doing so, we can achieve a greater understanding of the world and our place in it.

They said that reason is the only reliable guide to understanding the nature of things, and that by using it, we can avoid the pitfalls of emotionalism and superstition.

The "Indifferents"

Lastly, the Stoics had an idea of "indifferents", which are things that are neither good nor bad, but rather depend on our perspective and our attitude towards them.

They accepted that focusing too much on external events or things, such as wealth or power, will only lead to disappointment and negative emotions.

Instead, they believed that we should focus on cultivating our virtues and living in accordance with reason.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Stoicism is a philosophy that emphasizes on living a virtuous life, accepting the present moment, having self-control, utilizing the power of reason and understanding the concept of indifferents.

It encourages people to focus on what they can control, master their emotions, use reason and avoid the pitfalls of emotionalism and superstition in order to lead a more meaningful and fulfilling life

I learned about these ideas from reading these two book;

Letters from a Stoic by SENECA

Change I want to make1yreply toWant to Change …

I want to add something in general, many books that aim to help readers improve their lives often focus on similar themes, such as personal growth, self-improvement, and achieving goals.

Here are four general lessons that are commonly found in self-help and personal development books:

Setting and achieving goals: Many books encourage readers to set clear, specific, and measurable goals for themselves, and to take actionable steps to achieve them.

Positive mindset: Many books focus on the power of a positive mindset and how it can help to overcome obstacles and achieve success.

Self-awareness: Understanding one's own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors can be a powerful tool for personal growth and self-improvement.

Building supportive relationships: Building positive and supportive relationships with others can be an important aspect of personal growth and happiness.

It's worth noting that the effectiveness of a book depends on the reader's willingness to apply the lessons and take action to change their lives. It's important to remember that change takes time and effort and it's crucial to be patient and persistent.

Want to Change Your LIFE? Learn These 4 Lessons From This Book.
The wisdom of insecurity by Alan Watts:

The Futility of the Quest for Security
Watts argues that our modern society is characterized by a deep-seated sense of insecurity, which is rooted in our fear of death and our desire for permanence and security.

He contends that this insecurity is a direct result of our attempts to control our environment and to make sense of the world around us.

He suggests that the universe is inherently unstable and that all things are in a state of constant change, and that our attempts to control our environment and to make sense of the world are ultimately doomed to failure, as the universe is too complex and unpredictable for us to ever truly grasp.

The Illusory Nature of the Self
He also argues that our sense of self is illusory. He suggests that we are not separate individuals with distinct identities, but rather part of an interconnected web of existence.

He says that our sense of self is a product of our attempts to control our environment and to make sense of the world, and that it is ultimately an illusion.

The Power of “Letting Go”
Watts suggests that by relinquishing our desire for control and security, we can find true peace and contentment. He argues that the key to this is to accept the present moment as it is and to stop trying to control the future.

He suggests that by embracing the uncertainty and unpredictability of the universe, we can find true freedom and fulfillment.

The Zen Approach
Watts explores the idea of “Zen” as a way to overcome insecurity. He argues that Zen is not a religion or a philosophy, but rather a way of living that emphasizes the importance of living in the present moment and accepting things as they are.

He suggests that Zen can help us to overcome our fear of death and our desire for security and permanence, and to find true peace and contentment.

“The more a thing tends to be permanent, the more it tends to be lifeless.”

Conclusion
This book suggests that by embracing uncertainty, letting go of the desire for control, and embracing the present moment, one can find true peace and contentment.
