What Your Skin Says About Your Hormones

Our skin is a reflection of what is going on inside our bodies. If our hormones become unbalanced, our skin can become a reflection of this hormonal unbalance. We may experience blemishes, acne, cystic acne, or increased facial hair growth.

If you find your skin tends to break out during different times of your mensural cycle, this could be a clue to what hormones need more attention (e.g. estrogen, progesterone, testosterone).

Our hormones are always fluctuating, so becoming more in tune with our bodies and listening to what they are saying is important.

Functional Laboratory Tests can often bring life-changing information to understand our hormones and achieve healthy glowing skin. But - it is important we do not get stuck behind the numbers and listen to what our bodies are trying to tell us. When I’m working with a patient, I want to know their full story, so I can figure out how their lifestyle has got them to where they are today.

Functional Laboratory Testing is not always necessary. But, if you find yourself saying yes to more than two of the below, these symptoms are signs your body is yelling at you.

If you are wondering if your Hormones may be effecting your skin. Some things to ask yourself are?

Is your skin worse or better during different parts of your menstrual cycle?

Do you have acne predominately around your jaw line?

Do you struggle with PMS or PCOS?

Do you feel tired all the time?

Do you get HANGARY?

So what are some simple steps you can take into achieving healthy glowing skin?

1. Are you eating 3 balanced meals a day of protein, simple carbohydrates and fats?

2. Are you getting 8+ plus of restorative sleep?

3. Do you exercise 3 times a week?

4. Consuming Antioxidants (e.g. berries, leafy greens, herbs and spices).

Your hormones should be working for you instead of against you, if your hormone system becomes out of whack, you should work with your practitioner to see if your symptoms point to a hormonal imbalance.
