Everyday Magic: Tired of Feeling Down? Here's a Real-Life Story to Inspire You

It is timely to share the insights of Everyday Magic. These are extracts from an interview with the author about this memoir, published as an ebook in 2020:

“Come with me, I want to tell you my story, all of it, from the beginning – the story of how I discovered everyday magic. Everyday magic is the funny side of sad, the truth in paradox and the reality which hides behind the illusion of everyday life. And me? I’m Vivien. That’s where coincidence ends and the magic begins. My name means Life, from the Latin root, lending me the opportunity to penetrate an existential mystery. I am called to inspire you, show you how the pieces of life fit together, in a magical whole. This is a case-study. As you read, don’t think about me, think about yourself. I want you to find everyday magic.” Everyday Magic, p. 1, opening paragraph.

What is the topic of the book?

In real life we don’t have one superhuman mentor or one massively challenging scenario; what we do have is a series of teachers and a series of challenges that teach us to become ourselves. But that doesn’t make our lives less magical … it makes them more magical! I wrote the book after reading other inspirational writers who used fictionalized teachers with virtually superhuman powers; and fictionalized opportunities with life-altering insights, and I wanted to redress the balance.

Message?

Extraordinary magic is within the reach of each and every one of us. As soon as we look at our lives with a different attitude – the attitude that we’ve been given an opportunity to experience the wonders of life on earth – we begin to attend to different dynamics. And that’s when the magic begins.

What inspired you to write and publish this book?

Destiny. As a child, I knew I was going to write a book about my life I even had a title – we grew up on Mountain Road, and my working title, as a child, was “Mad Mountain Road.” “Mad” means crazy in South Africa, and here in the States it means “angry.” Interestingly enough, now that I look back on my family of origin, I realize they were crazy because they were angry!

Motivation for Writing the Book?

An inner drive to use my life as a case-study to help others overcome adversity, follow their path and develop their potential.

Highlighted Topic?

We can’t always choose what happens to us, but we can choose how we respond. The good thing and the bad thing are the same thing, it’s up to each of us to “make it good.”

Book Description?

Everyday Magic will strike you in a sweet spot you probably didn’t know you had. In this elegant memoir, Vivien relates how the spirit world guided her, through growing up in the Apartheid South Africa of 1960 – 1990, with an LGBTQ brother, through coming to the USA, and founding FourWinds Academy, a school for training healers.

This pleasing guide takes readers on a journey of spiritual discovery that yields fresh insights into their own lives. Using her studies of Psychology and the Alexander Technique as her launch pad, Vivien shares her spirit-inspired exploration of holistic lifestyles, psychotherapy, bodywork, martial arts, healing, crystals, intuition and shamanism, learning from celebrated teachers such as Melody, Michael Harner and Brian Weiss. Vivien shows how all roads lead to empowerment; and her message is uplifting: magic is within your reach and mine, every day. Allow it to happen.

Quotes from Reviews?

Through Vivien’s life story, I curiously found my own…remembering my own desires, searchings, beliefs, and gifts. Vivien’s book came at a perfect time in my life and it encouraged me to believe in myself again, and to follow my heart, knowing that I am guided and protected each step along the way. As inspiring as Vivien’s faithfulness and strength was, it was her innocence and the purity of her heart that compelled me the most. I felt a deep connection to her through her writing style, and through her honesty. As I approached the final chapters, I noticed I was reading at a slower pace than the earlier chapters, not wanting it to end. It was like saying good-bye to a long-time friend.

I can’t wait for her next book so we can have another visit together. I know you will feel the same way. This is a wonderful book about life and faith. Vivien is a gifted writer and educator who shares her life story with us so eloquently and vulnerably. You MUST get this book! You will love it!!

How to Do an Energy Reading Using Crystals

Here is a step-by-step guide of how to do a general reading of the condition of the energy field or aura, to doing an energy reading, using crystals. The video demo is posted on YouTube and on our website in the vlogs section. Remember that the act of doing the reading will alter the energy dynamics, so bear this in mind, and sequence the reading accordingly. Allow the adjustments to take place in response to the evaluative techniques. This is like tidying a messy room – if you’re picking up an object to look at it, you may as well put it in its place before moving on.

1. Choose the proxy crystal.

Ask “Who wants to be the proxy crystal for… ?” and I say the person’s name as I visualize her in my mind’s eye – what I call the “mind screen.”

2. Now that the proxy has connected with the client, I note which aspects of the proxy crystal catch my eye.

3. Check the feel of the outermost layer of the energy field, using a feather.

I like to use a feather because it has similar properties to the energy field. I’m looking for a smooth, knitted together sensation – just like a feather. I’m looking to see whether there are any breaks in the field – that would be the equivalent of the barbs, barbules and hooks of the feather splitting apart – that can be mild, medium or severe. I’m using a combination of kinesthesia and visualization on the mind screen.

4. While I’m checking the outermost layer, I’m also tuning in to the client and checking general vibrational frequency: is this client calm and even? Too fast – agitated/anxious? Too slow – depressed/sluggish. Remember that it is possible (and frequent) to be both too fast and too slow in alternating waves.

5. Assess the chakras.

You can use a pendulum initially. With experience, you can evaluate this via your own kinesthetic awareness. I like to use a long slender wand, and go by feel.

I’m assessing size, shape, pace and match with the other chakras.

6. Assess the cording.

Use the general de-cording technique and de-cord the client, noting quantity, thickness, depth and ease of removal. If there is old cording that has hardened into webbing, make a note that an extraction is needed.

Pull back cording from self to others as well, when indicated.

7. Assess the energy field’s dynamic with regard to the White Light/Negativity axis.

I use a slender quartz laser for the White Light and small pewter phurba for the negativity. I do V-Gridding and check to see which tool is getting the stronger reaction. If the phurba is getting the stronger reaction, then a detox of negativity is required, make a note.

8. Assess the energy field with regard to the positive mood/negative mood axis.

I use a small Zambian citrine with an Isis face, and a long slender schorl tourmaline for this, and I V-Grid. If the field feels buoyant, this dynamic is in good order. If it feels flat, I make a note to evaluate further which mood supporting procedure is desirable.

9. Separate the layers of the energy field and look at each in turn.

I use a long slender obsidian needle for this. A gold pin also works.

As I separate the layers, I note how easily they separate – like layers of bedding where you don’t want sheets and blankets to get tangled together, you don’t want the layers of the energy field to be entangled.

I look at each layer, looking for smoothness versus lumps, bumps, pitting and holes

10. Once I’ve finished reading the layers of the field in this way, I sweep the field with a Quartz cluster to blend the layers again.

11. I evaluate the energy body alignment by looking on my mind screen.

I ask: “Is there anything I need to do to before inviting the energy body to realign?” If the physical body is very stressed it is too uncomfortable for the energy body, so Draining Stress is usually required.

Once I’ve ensured comfort, I can use one of two methods to bring about the realignment. One is to funnel the energy body back in, using crystal tools, the other is to reseat the energy body using a quartz sphere and your hands.

12. I complete by sweeping the energy field one last time with whichever “completion” crystal seems appropriate.

I like to use a self-healed quartz crystal that includes epidote and hematite for feeling rejuvenated, or Titanium coated quartz for protection – this is just like putting the icing on the cake!

What is Crystal Surgery?

Crystal Surgery is a new system of Crystal Healing that engages the physical, chemical and electrical properties of crystals to adjust the physiological and energetic functions of the physical body. Crystal Surgery is holistic, affecting all levels of functioning, from physical to spiritual.

Crystal Surgery is distinct from other methods of Crystal Healing because of the way that the crystals are used as tools. Crystal tools are used in a similar way to the way that surgeons use their tools in physical surgery.

The crystal tools can be applied to the physical body, to effect physiological changes and can also be used to operate on the energy field and energy body of the client.

Whilst the healing effects of a Crystal Surgery session usually continues to build for forty-eight hours, many changes should occur during the session. Immediate benefits should include a decrease in pain, an increase in physiological functioning, and a positive shift in mood, emotion and energy levels. Observable physiological changes should include deeper breathing, a slower heart rate, improved circulation indicated by coloring of face and extremities, and a smile!

By the end of the session, the client should feel completely different from when she walked in. Overall, there should be a 180 degree turn in the clients’ energy: If she came in tense she should feel relaxed and vital, and if she came in fatigued or lethargic, she should feel integrated and energized.

Even in chronic conditions, where the healing effects need time to manifest, Crystal Surgery should deliver immediate results that indicate the techniques are working. The client should still feel benefits, like having more energy and feeling more optimistic, by the end of the session.

Crystal Surgery is not a substitute for medical treatment. When medical intervention is necessary, Crystal Surgery can be used as a supportive measure. One of the best applications of Crystal Surgery is to complement physical surgery. When a physical surgery is required, Crystal Surgery can be used to do the equivalent surgery on the energy body, so that the client is energetically prepared for the physical surgery. This typically shortens the length of the physical surgery and shortens the amount of time needed for physical healing, as well as aligning the energies for a successful physical surgery without complications.

Manifestation

Manifestation

The ability to manifest is a powerful tool and the clearer you are, in yourself, the easier it becomes. On the one hand, manifestation is an advanced energetic skill that requires caution and mindfulness. On the other hand, we are all living, perhaps uncomfortably(!), with the hard fact that we create our own reality.

The Law of Attraction

In New Age philosophy, the “Law of Attraction” is cited:

“The law of attraction is the name given to the maxim “like attracts like” which in New Thought philosophy is used to sum up the idea that by focusing on positive or negative thoughts a person brings positive or negative experiences into their life.” [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_of_attraction_(New_Thought

Wikipedia]

Unfortunately, a shallow understanding of this “Law” can lead to misery and self-blame, where none is deserved. People who experience extremely difficult life events, like the loss of a child, or developing a terminal illness, are left wondering: “What did I do to cause this? Where did my thinking go wrong? How did I attract this into my life?” As Healers, we need to unburden our clients from the simplistic, but popular, idea that they somehow attracted to themselves negative life events by thinking negative thoughts.

“Bad” things happen to everyone. That’s Life. It is important to understand that the Law of Attraction comes into play AFTER the “bad”life event. [The “bad” life event has more to do with your Soul Contract, which you would have devised BEFORE your birth/incarnation – and, as one may well say: “It seemed like a good idea at the time.”]

From the perspective of “inside our lives” we cannot explain why things happen to us. This is part of the mystery of the universe, the mystery of our nature as spiritual beings, and the mystery of Life itself.

We can observe, however, that our lives are designed so that we come up against these mysteries, and that we are forced to make choices in this state of “not knowing.”

In this state of “not knowing,” as we face our difficulties, we have the opportunity to learn how to make good choices and find a positive path. On the positive path we will attract more positive.

To put it more simply, we cannot always choose what happens to us, but we can always choose how we respond. And how we respond will determine what happens next.

Clarity of Intention

The art of manifestation is linked inextricably with intention. The clearer your intention is, the more quickly you will be able to manifest what you want.

The greatest obstacle to manifestation is carrying conflicting intentions: “I want to lose 10 pounds, but first I will finish the ice cream in the freezer.”

Most of us are a hotbed of conflicting thoughts and ideas. This leads to random and erratic behavior, which cannot provide a good outcome.

For manifestation to be the outcome, we need all of the following:

1. Ascertaining the desire.

2. Ascertaining the motivation.

3. Wording the intention constructively and precisely.

4. Ascertaining the inner blocks that could sabotage the intention.

5. Establishing the realistic steps that could lead to the desired outcome.

6. Applying energy to create and maintain movement.

7. Steering in the correct direction.

From this list, it is easy to see that Manifestation requires a lot of inner work, an awareness of self, and the establishing of consistent and constructive behavior.

When learning how to manifest, begin with a simple and realistic desire. Build your manifestation muscles gradually in the same way that physical strength and fitness has to be developed.

Remember to appreciate your success, no matter how small it may seem once accomplished. We must learn not to move the goal posts, and we must learn how to feel satisfied.
