We’re about to welcome in a new year, and you know what that means - it’s time to start thinking about upping your game when it comes to your health. We’re another year older, another year wiser, and another year closer to the health problems we’re all wanting to avoid.

Yes, December and January is when we start thinking about lacing up our running trainers again or giving up booze for good, and when it comes to the latter it’s not only an excellent life choice, but one that’s also easier said than done.

Going through an alcohol detox isn’t easy for those that do drink heavily, or perhaps even have a problem with alcohol, but when you understand all the benefits that it can have, it will certainly provide you with the determination to go sober in 2023…

You’ll save money!

During a period where a global recession is looking likely, having that additional budget would certainly come in handy, and you’d be amazed by how much you can save by giving up alcohol.

Alcohol itself isn’t cheap these days and you may be quite surprised when you calculate exactly how much you spend on booze. Then there’s all the additional extras too. If you head out to a bar for drinks, are you also going to get taxis there and back, as well as a takeaway on the way home? Factor those in and it’s a small fortune you’re paying, and won’t be paying for if you go sober!

Improve relationships

If your drinking has become problematic, then it’s very likely that you’ll have damaged some relationships over the last few years. Alcohol can lead to more arguments and cause rifts in relationships with friends and family.

It’s now up to a sober you to fix them. Taking responsibility for your actions under the influence of alcohol will help not only fix relationships but strengthen them too, and allow you to realise just how important these people are to you - considerably more important than a pint of lager or a vodka and coke.

You’re physical and mental health will improve

Alcohol and regular drinking can have a huge effect on your mental health and it can really affect your well-being. That can often lead to drinking more to try and cope with such problems but ultimately, it will only make it worse.

Alcohol isn’t a coping mechanism, it affects your brain and can lead to more negative feelings and spiral into anger and depression.

Equally, your physical health also deteriorates with alcohol. It can increase the risk of heart conditions, increase blood pressure and the chances of cancer, not to mention see you putting on weight.

Giving it up will make you feel all around much healthier and happier in yourself, and alone make it worthwhile going sober in 2023.
