The Alchemy of Healing: Embracing Your Darkness
“Until we have seen darkness, we truly don't know our essence. Through the darkness, your innate creativity begins."
— Michele Marchese
I wrote this quote after my own journey into darkness and along the path of learning the alchemy of psychology.
Many people around you—family, friends, and daily acquaintances—constantly urge you to stay positive and always look on the bright side. The problem is that by not looking into the darkness, you will never truly heal. No amount of external medical treatment can replace your responsibility: being the caretaker of your own soul.
Certainly, things you have gone through since childhood may be very difficult, even traumatic, and you may rightly place blame on those who were responsible. However, your soul journey must begin with healing your inner child.
While everyone compares this healing process to peeling back the layers of an onion, I compare it more to getting to the heart of an artichoke. The little thorns really hurt unless you cut them all away, and the outer petals are hard to eat, yet the heart is so soft and easy. The goal is to reach a point where all the "thorny" areas are gone. During this uncomfortable yet necessary journey, you will illuminate what is buried in the deep parts of your subconscious. This illumination will, in turn, release you from the bondage of what’s holding you down. How can you heal unless you start from the beginning?

In conclusion, the journey into what may be a much darker side of yourself is profoundly worth it. When a person is extremely depressed, they often express a darkness that makes others uncomfortable. This very darkness, however, can be harnessed into healing and used as a powerful catalyst for permanent change.
