My name is Mark Charlwood, and I live in the lovely county of Hampshire, in southeast England. I have a wide and eclectic range of interests that include sustainability, alternative energy, science and technology and aerospace.
I studied at London's City University, graduating ion 2007 with a Masters in Air Safety Management, with associated certificates in Accident Investigation. I studied technical authorship, graduating with distinction in 2018. I studied journalism at the London College of Journalism.
I also enjoy creative writing, poetry, lyric writing and travel reporting – just for the hell of it.
The production of articles, web content, technical manuals, instruction books, procedures and checklists are all within my capability and skill set.
I have spent most of my working life in communications, technology and aviation. I have written articles on a diverse range of subjects from cycling to shipping, and from social commentary to short stories.
In the past I have worked for British Telecom, American Airlines, British Airways and the United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority.
I have been a flight instructor for over 25 years, and hold ratings to train pilots on the Boeing 737-200, Airbus A319/320/321, Boeing 777-200/300, Boeing 787-8 and the now-retired Boeing 747-400. I have somehow managed to amass over 8,000 instructional hours, most of it sitting in a darkened full-motion flight simulator.
I have active memberships of the Association of British Science Writers (MABSW), the Royal Aeronautical Society (MRAeS). and hold a Licentiateship of the City and Guilds in Air Transport.
